30 Years of Transforming Lives

Since 1995, our residential school, Disha Seema Center School (operated by Jyoti Development Trust), has been a home and hope for children from diverse backgrounds. Behind every number is a name, a story, and a dream.

Aanya's Journey: From Shy Beginnings to Class Leader

When Aanya first joined Disha Seema Center School at the age of five, she would hide behind her mother, hesitant to speak. Her parents, who work as maintenance staff on the IIT campus, dreamt of a life for her beyond daily wage labor but didn't know where to start.

Through our bridge course and nutritional support program, Aanya found her footing. Today, at 14, she is not only topping her class in the local high school but also returns to Disha Seema Center School every evening to tutor younger children. She dreams of becoming a computer engineer—right here at IIT Kharagpur one day.

"Disha Seema Center School didn't just give me books; they gave me the belief that I belong in a classroom, not just outside cleaning it."
— Aanya, Class 11

Alumni Making Us Proud

From Student to Singer

One of our male alumni became a professional singer after graduation, earning a living performing at festivals and weddings.

Empowering Through Dance

A female student, after completing Class 12, returned to her village to become a dance teacher, inspiring local children.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

A young woman, despite early marriage, started a small school for children in her verandah, bringing education to her community.

Tech for the People

After Class 12, a student set up a computer kiosk with borrowed funds, helping villagers with online forms and printing services.

Role Models Return

Two girls who studied with us from kindergarten completed their graduation and B.Ed, and now teach at our school—true role models for our students.

Nursing Dreams Realized

Several girls pursued nursing training—two now serve as Nursing Aides in their villages, and another works as a nurse in Delhi after training in Bangalore.

"We work in the professors' houses cleaning and cooking. We never thought our children could sit in a classroom like the professors' children. Disha Seema Center School made that possible."
